While playing a video from Guiding Tech's official YouTube channel, I noticed that the volume was too low. So I increased the volume on my Windows 10 PC, but it didn’t help much. Playing any YouTube video had the same problem of low volume. Check the solutions mentioned in this post for low volume on YouTube videos if you want to fix the same issue.
Before proceeding with the fixes mentioned in this troubleshooting guide, you should play a different video in a new tab. That's to check if the issue occurred for a single video only. With that, you can be sure the issue isn’t limited to a single video but happens for all the YouTube videos.
Also, try playing any offline audio or video on your PC. If that works fine, it’s time to begin the troubleshooting process for YouTube's low volume issue in Chrome.
1. RESTART COMPUTER
When was the last time you restarted your computer? If it has been a few days, it’s time to hit the restart button. There’s no harm in restarting again, even if you turned it on normally today. Sometimes, a simple restart has magical powers.
2. CHECK YOUTUBE VOLUME
2. CHECK YOUTUBE VOLUME
Despite being easily visible on the YouTube player, sometimes we forget that YouTube has a volume control of its own. If the volume is low in it, you will hear low audio even if your PC’s volume is high. So you need to check and change that.
For that, open YouTube in Chrome. Play any video. Hover your mouse over the sound icon in the YouTube player. A volume slider will show up. Increase the volume. Alternatively, hold down the SHIFT key and use up or down arrows to increase or decrease the volume.
PRO TIP: If there is no volume at all from YouTube, right-click on the YouTube tab in the top bar, and select unmute.
3. CHECK VOLUME FOR CHROME
3. CHECK VOLUME FOR CHROME
In Windows 10, each app gets a separate volume setting. So you can have the maximum volume in one app and 50% in another. Sometimes, this setting changes for Chrome, and that’s why you get low volume on YouTube.
There are two methods to fix it.
Method 1: Change Volume for Chrome From Volume Mixer
Launch Chrome and play a video on YouTube. It is important to play a video or audio through any site so that Chrome appears in the Volume mixer section of Windows.
Then right-click on the sound icon on the taskbar and choose Open Volume Mixer from the menu.
Increase the volume for Google Chrome using the available slider.
Method 2: Change Volume for Chrome From Settings
Open Settings on your Windows 10 PC from the Start Menu. You can use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + I to open Settings.
Go to System.
Then go to Sound. Scroll down in the Sound settings and click on ‘App volume and device preferences’ option.
You will find Google Chrome listed there if a tab is playing audio or video. Increase the volume of Google Chrome using the slider.
PRO TIP: In both the methods, if the volume is already high, decrease it to a minimum level and then increase again.
4. RESET SOUND SETTINGS TO DEFAULT VALUES
You can also try resetting sound settings to their original values. For that, go to Settings > System > Sound. Click on 'App volume and device preferences' option. Scroll down, and you will see the Reset button. Click on it.
5. CHANGE OUTPUT DEVICE
5. CHANGE OUTPUT DEVICE
Sometimes, a different output device is selected, and that’s why you either hear low or no volume from your computer. To fix it, you need to change the output device in sound settings.
Here are the steps for the same:
Step 1: Open Control Panel on your computer.
Step 2: Click on Sound.
Step 3: You will see the output devices listed on the screen that opens. If multiple speakers show up, click on a different one to change the default playback device. Then click on Set Default.
6. DISABLE AUDIO ENHANCEMENTS
You should also try disabling audio enhancements. For that, go to Sound in Control Panel. Click on your speaker and then hit the Properties button at the bottom.
Go to the Advanced tab. Uncheck the box next to Enable audio enhancements. Click on Ok to save the changes.
PRO TIP: On the Advanced tab, try changing the sample rate and bit depth values under Default Format.
7. CHANGE COMMUNICATION SETTINGS
In the Sound settings of Windows 10, you will find a setting that reduces the volume if you use PC for telephone calls. You need to change it for optimum results.
For that, go to Control Panel > Sound. Click on the Communication tab. Select Do nothing.
8. DISABLE SPATIAL SOUND
For many users, disabling Spatial sound on their Windows PC improved the volume levels on YouTube. To turn it off, right-click on the sound icon on the taskbar. Go to Spatial Sound from the menu and turn it off.
9. CHECK EXTENSIONS
Did you recently install any extension in Chrome especially related to YouTube or audio? If yes, disable it for a while and see if the YouTube low volume issue is fixed.
10. UPDATE CHROME
